The city council of Sorrento, on the occasion of the twinning with the Moroccan administration of the city of Laayoune, has recognized and endorsed the occupation of Western Sahara. Morocco, which, despite numerous UN resolutions and the presence of international observers, including Italian soldiers, refuses to retreat or to recognize the self determination of the Sahrawi people, suppressing any attempt to nonviolent protest with a brutal crackdown.
